Anthropic has added its Claude AI assistant to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. See what it can do, who can use it and how to turn it on.
Claude Can Now Help You Inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
Do you ever write a report in Google Docs and wish a smart helper could fix the tricky parts? Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI assistant, just made that possible. Claude now works inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.
What Is Claude for Google Workspace?
Google Workspace is the group of apps that includes Docs for writing, Sheets for numbers and Slides for presentations. Let’s Data Science reported that Anthropic released a Claude add-on for Google Workspace on October 6 as a public beta. A beta is an early version that people can try while the company keeps improving it. It adds a sidebar, which is a panel that opens beside your file.
What Can Claude Do in Each App?
In Docs, Claude can fix sentences, restyle headings and suggest rewrites. iPhone in Canada reported that bigger changes show up as approval cards, so you can say yes or no first. In Sheets, Claude can write formulas, make pivot tables and build charts. In Slides, it can make new slides that match the look of the deck you already have.
Who Can Use It?
The add-on is open to all paid Claude plans. 9to5Google noted that people who prefer Claude can now “use their AI of choice inside of Google’s ecosystem.” Google’s own Gemini helper is already built into those apps, so this gives people another choice. Let’s Data Science adds that Team and Enterprise owners must switch on the connectors before their members can use them.
Is It Private and Safe?
Let’s Data Science says Claude’s access follows the sharing rules already set on each Google file. That means it should only reach the files you are allowed to open. It is still smart to avoid pasting secrets into any AI tool.
How Do You Set It Up?
The Free Press Journal explains the steps. Search for “Claude for Google Workspace” in the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install. Then open a Doc, Sheet or Slides file and choose Extensions, then Claude, then Open Claude.
Why It Matters
More and more AI helpers are moving into the apps we already use every day. That could save time on schoolwork and office tasks. Remember to read over anything an AI writes before you share it.
